They’re as comforting as a warm cup of coffee on a cold November morning and as cuddly as your favorite sweater. After a long day at work, a mid-afternoon existential crisis, and the stressful commute back home, they run to greet you like they haven’t seen you in years, their long lost friend. They wag their tail or purr, and no matter how stressful your day, your heart melts, and you are happy again.
Our pets, though they can not talk to us, love us unconditionally. A dog or a cat doesn’t care about your job or the size of your house. They don’t care how much you make an hour or your dress size. They don’t judge you based on your style or your taste in music. No matter what, if you love them, they will love you right back.
We humans are not meant to be alone. We want someone to stand by us through thick and thin, and we need it too. We need companionship, and animals more than give that to us. They make us happy, and they make us feel loved, two things we need more than anything. They are the perfect friend because they know when we are upset without ever being told, and they are always there for us no matter what.
Whether it’s a cat or a dog, a house cat or a dog that’s not allowed inside, our animals are a part of our family. They wrap their paws around our hearts and do not let go. They can make us laugh and smile. They can make us angry when they tear up our favorite shoes or scratch at our furniture until it’s nothing but threads, but more than anything, when they’re not with us, we miss them. Their lives are short compared to ours, but they love us more in those few years than some of us love in fifty.
